Jersey Jaunts and Summer Winners
We have been taking runners over to Jersey for several years now, where Les Landes racecourse hosts regular Sunday afternoon meetings in the summer. The yard has enjoyed plenty of success there, not least earlier this summer when Molliana, Man of the Sea, Nina's Field and Master Burbidge all won their races and Princess T only failed by the narrowest of margins to round out a through the card set of winners!
We have enjoyed several winners in the subsequent Jersey meetings but also experienced the downside of racing overseas when on a Saturday in early August the horsebox was turned around at the port as the high winds prevented the horses from travelling by sea. Aside from this hiccup, things have gone well and if they continue in the coming meetings, we could see the champion trainer and champion owner (Mike Burbidge – Dajam Ltd) trophies heading across the channel to Bath!
No overseas adventures were required for Ragamuffin to record a victory at Uttoxeter a few weeks ago and Scardura followed that up a few days later bouncing back to form in great style at Stratford and delivering another winner.
The yard recorded a rare flat-racing double at our local track, Bath when True Romance ran on powerfully down the outside and prevailed in a three-way photo and then later on the card, Hidden Depths also finished strongly down the outside and did it a shade more comfortably, getting to the front a few strides from the line. That day ended up being an across the country treble when Ballymilan also won at Southwell.
Putting Green seems to like long-distance travel and he recorded a win at Perth and another traveller was Milkwood who headed over the Irish Sea to run in the Galway Hurdle where he was a cracking 2nd and he looks like an exciting prospect for the coming national hunt season.
With winners in Jersey, England, Scotland and almost in Ireland, we did not want Wales feeling left out and it was great to have a double of winners at Bangor-on-Dee when Cesar Et Rosalie and Glendruid both won and we had another double to celebrate a few days ago when both Exelerator Express and Translink won at Worcester.
There is however still plenty to look forward to. We are looking forward to welcoming owners to our first golf day at Cumberwell Park on Friday 27th August and can still squeeze in one or two more if any of our golfing owners are reading this and we also have our racing club horse, Deputy Jones, ready to roll and she should be making her first appearance in club colours at the start of September.
If you want to get involved in the ownership of her, then details of how to join the club are available on the club page which can be viewed by selecting “Ownership and Costs” and then “Racing Club” from the menu above.
